On February 11th, 2012 we introduced Maratone Long Distance HiFi to the world. Well, at least to some people who liked Vintage Jamaican Music and came to our very first Rock Steady Ballrom in the backroom of a no longer existant Pub in Berlin. Nothing went as planned that night but we had some hours of fun and built the foundation for another pillar of Soundsystem Culture in Berlin. Looking back we can be quite proud of countless events with amazing selectors and even some Jamaican Legends playing on the sound and are very satisfied with the pressure and unique sound we can deliver nowadays.

With venues closed for a few more weeks it is rather difficult to plan a proper Anniversary Dance with the full sound. We are busy behind the scenes and are positive that the Soundclash in August will take place. We’ll keep you posted on other events should restrictions be lifted and something work out on short notice. Do you remember the 21st Aniversary of the Reggaexplosion powered by our Soundsystem? They missed their 23rd and 24th Aniversary because of the lockdown and we dearly missed this monthly mayhem. But finally, the ReggaeXplosion is back and the Carib Crew will have a special guest for the restart: Count Crophead from Hamburg is not only an organiser of Treasure Sounds, a fantastic Allnighter at Hafenklang, but also a die-hard collector of Jamaican Oldies. Don’t miss!

To celebrate the restart of clubbing to the sounds of young Jamaica, many different crews and DJs from the Reggae scene in town will gather at Privatclub this month. You’ll hear a wide range of musical styles from 60s Ska and Rocksteady, through Reggae, Dub and (Modern) Roots – carefully selected by passionate collectors and DJs. Expect handcrafted music with good vibes made for the dancefloor, played from vinyl only.

9.10.2021 – Roots Daughters Soundsystem Launch

Julie and Jahminta are the Roots Daughters, two passionate vinyl collectors and music activists. They are regurlarly organizing events, creating a space and platform to express and represent female activists in the scene. Another goal is to give credit and pay tribute to the great female* artists.
In October they become a real soundsystem and will celebrate with the builders, Young Veteran Soundsystem from Cologne. The event is private, takes place outside Berlin from afternoon to evening and is easy to reach by public transport. Tag der Clubkultur (‘Club Culture Day’) was launched on the initiative of Berlin‘s Senator for Culture, Klaus Lederer, highlights the diversity and importance of Berlin‘s club culture in times of an existential crisis. As part of this showcase festival on October 3, 2020, up to forty clubs and collectives be rewarded for their contributions to Berlin’s club culture in recent years or even decades. On this day, each club and collective will present itself and the diversity and liveliness of Berlin’s club culture to the whole City.

YAAM is one of the venues rewarded and participating and we are glad to announce that our Rhythm Ruler is part of the Lineup. He will play records on the Lion’s Den Soundsystem alongside operator and owner of the Sound Ras Lion, Roots Daughters and Selektor Bony. All areas will be open including the Beach, Kids Corner and River Stage.

Don’t be late as there is limited capacity, bring a mask and follow the hygiene rules including registration at the entrance.
