22.11.2019 – Swing Baby SwingThe new generation of selectors is running their first own night. They already proved their talent at several allnighters including the ReggaeXplosion and in case of Polly S even on our soundsystem at the Vintage Night BBQ earlier this year. Full support from our side and with Reggae Rumble the day after it is well worth a trip to Berlin for the whole weekend.

Just a few months ago our Rhythm Ruler was invited by Tom Bauminista to join Goldfinga for a Dub conference special focussing on 70s tunes. Back then Tom asked to join him again for another show, this time with a selection of rare oldies. It finally happened and The Rhythm Ruler not only brought a handful of favourites, but also his long time friend and former Sweet Sensation partner Rudewoi and a recording of the Reggae round in last year’s soundclash to get you in the mood for this year’s edition in September. Many thanks to Tom, omyradio.net and rastfm for the opportunity and for great shows each and every (sun)day.

It’s about time that this movie is finally screened in Germany more than a year after it’s premiere. Although some critics say that it exaggerates the role of Trojan Records in the popularity of Reggae Music in the UK and feels more like an promotional film than a proper documentary it should be well worth watching. The screening is free, so better don’t miss your chance. More screenings can be found on the official website.

HKW strikes again! You can count on at least one great show a year at this venue. This summer they bring The Congos on their stage and after the amazing show of Cedric Myton with Inna de Yard we are quite excited about it. Hollie Cook is great too (although we can’t imagine she’ll bring a physical ‘Soundsystem’ as announced) and the movie ‘Made in Jamaica’ will sure be interesting if you are up for that after the shows.

Unfortunately the Berlin Vintage Reggae Night will not take place this month. Next month our Rhythm Ruler will share the decks with Stefan (Such a Sound) – as usual on the third friday of the month.

poster with bands for this is ska festival 2019For 23 years the This is Ska Festival brings many small, local and bigger international bands together, mostly headlined by some veteran jamaican singers. This year Ken Boothe and The Clarendonians can be found on stage, backed by one of the best sounding bands in Germany, The Magic Touch. Although the line-up is dominated by Two-Tone, Ska-Punk und 3rd-Wave-Ska we are sure a trip to Roßlau (a little town not far from Dessau – a city known to those interesed in Bauhaus design and architecture) is worth it. If you have seen Ken Booth with Inna de Yard already, it could be interesting to travel from Berlin for just the friday night. More about how to get there, camping, tickets (from 35 EUR) and general information can be found on the offical website.

UPDATE: As german authorities denied a visa for Peter Austin of the Clarendonians they can’t perform at the festival. As Ken Boothe didn’t sing many of his hits at the Inna de Yard show the saturday might be the better choice now if you only want to go for a day.

Tickets for the Soundclash on Friday, September 27th and Reggae Rumble on the 28th are now availble for only 20 EUR, please write a message through our contact form if you would like to buy one. If you only need a ticket for friday night, you can get it through the YAAM Ticketshop. Capacity is quite limited this year. We highly recommend to buy tickets in advance to avoid the disappointment of not being allowed in.

You can also buy a screenprint of the artwork by Chema Skandal for 25 EUR. The prints will be limited to 30 copies, only 20 of these will be available in Europe. They come handnumbered and signed by the artist in the size of 18 x 24″ (457 x 610 mm).

UPDATE: The prints are sold out! Tickets are still available, don’t sleep on these.

We wouldn’t really call the tiny boxes hanging in the backroom of this bar a ‘proper sound’ but we’re a soundsystem, so our standards a somewhat high. The lineup is great and the bar well equipped so it will probably be a great night anyway. If you’re somewhere in the south of Germany that weekend you should catch up with our Rhythm Ruler at Reggae Hit The Town München.

Dresden is not far from Berlin and definitely worth the trip on thWine and Grine April 2019e 27th of April. Two of our selectors will play their records at Ostpol, a cosy venue with a proper PA and a nice dancefloor. Join them for a night of jamaican vintage sounds at Wine and Grine.
