29.6.2018 – Dubcup feat. Roots Rocket & Behold and Live
The Berlin Soundsystem Collective presents another show with local soundsystems at YAAM. Behold & Live is a real handbuilt heavyweight sound and enters the arena with 4 x 18″ scoops for proper bassline while Roots Rockets brings his full set of 6 x 15″ scoops that plays quite heavy as we experienced at the Vintage Night some weeks ago. If you are into Roots & Dub from the 70s until today you shouldn’t miss this night.
Free entry with a ticket of the Hempolics concert.

Reggae related Movie Trailers 2018
Two promising movie trailers have been published recently. The first one is for Yardie, a fictional movie based on the same named novel by Victor Headley. It starts in Jamaica of the 70s and takes you to the UK in the 80s. Movie critic Jordan Hoffman from The Guardian wasn’t really convinced but others say it has potential of being another iconic movie about Jamaican Music as ‘The harder they come’ or ‘Rockers’ and this would be about time after all these years. It was screened at Berlinale earlier this year and we hope it will be shown at some open air cinema in town this summer. We’ll keep you posted if any dates are published.
The other trailer is for a documentary by Trojan Records. Read more
Earthquake On Orange Street
Jeremy Collingwood just released this book which is a must-have for all fans of the music of Prince Buster. It was available at Dubvendor for a couple of hours but sold out quickly. We’ll keep you posted where you can find a copy.
Mind-boggling discography devoted to the Jamaican releases of Prince Buster’s productions from 1961’s Oh Carolina by the Folkes Brothers to 1977’s Uganda by Yusuf Ali & The Revolutionaries. The titles; A and B sides, are listed by year of release with matrix numbers and introductory notes for each year. Packed with information, there is a black checker which will help identifying your white label pre-releases, a list of the Rock-A-Shacka reissues and pages of full colour life size reproductions of the various label designs, as well as a sample of white labels complete with “sound man markings”. Hours of fun and a useful resource, this is the result of hours of furrow-browed research and really only serves to increase ones desire to see more of Buster’s music reissued immediately and properly.
Update: Jeremy writes that “DV will have more on Monday….strong initial demand!”
Update 2: If you want to save some money order through Honest Jons.
Sweet Sensation in May

Reggae Record Chart Posters
Ebay seller crazybeat sold some nice reggae chart posters from 1969 and 1970 in their last auction. Some collectors rate these pieces of reggae history in the UK as high as records, most of the posters fetched more than 100 GBP. Here are the top three of Trojan Records from November 21st, 1969 with no big surprise in them:
Jimmy Cliff – Wonderful World, Beautiful People
Upsetters – Return of Django
Harry J. Allstars – Liquidator
Quite surprisingly Pama Records sold more copies of Baff Boom by the Tennors in the week of October 3rd, 1969 than Max Romeos’ Wet Dream. If you want to get hold of a chart poster yourself check the current auctions of crazybeat, they have some Pama Charts from 1970 on auction until the 3rd of June.
Edit: Pama-Forum member PortOJam was so kind to point to an archive on the Dancecrasher Website where you can find some of the Record Company Chart/Release sheets.
No Man is an island
This is by far the greates reggae-related project we have seen in the world wide web for quite a while. A website full of labelscans, short stories and information on the pressing quality of the different releases over the years. If you share the love of Studio One you should check out A Guide to Djing Studio One Records at House Parties. But be warned: You may get lost there for hours…
