Selector introduction for the Vintage Jamaican Music Soundclash

All of the three competitors taking part in the Vintage Jamaican Music Soundclash have played in Berlin and on our Soundsystem before and each of them delivered quality tunes and set the dancefloor on fire. For all who don’t know them yet we wrote this introducion in alphabetical order.

21.9.2018 – Midnight Hour, The Rhythm Ruler in Prague

As Prague is easy to reach from Berlin by train or bus we’d like to suggest a trip to the beautiful czech capital in September. The Forward March Posse is running a proper soundsystem there and is organizing a second edition of ‘The Midnight Hour’, a rocksteady ball as we know and love it from our own dances. They invited our Rhythm Ruler for this one and will celebrate the 50th aniversary of Trojan Records in fine style.

17.9.2018 – Panza & The Rhythm Ruler at the Vintage Night

Two of our selectors will play at the August edition of the Berlin Vintage Reggae Night: Panza and The Rhythm Ruler will bring their boxes of original vinyl for good vibes all night long. Other than at our regular oldies dances as the Maratone Rocksteady Club you will also find quite a bit of Roots Reggae and even some early Digital Reggae on the turntables of YAAM but we promise strictly heavyweight music with plenty of Rocksteady and Early Reggae for the original music lovers.

30.8.2018 – Sweet Sensation

We just heard the news that the Sweet Sensation is not gonna be continued after the special event for Reggae! Steady! Soul! in december. It looks like Berlin is a bit oversaturated with events for vintage jamaican music and the loyal supporters of DIY events where people do more than just plug & play are getting less and less. Pass by to support the crew this week and every last thursday of the month until december to give the guys a warm farewell after 14 years of dedication. Original records will be played by Rudewoi, Smart Soul, The Rhythm Ruler and special guest Boss Bread (Old Fashioned Rudeboys) this week.

20.-22.7.2018 – Caribbean Film Corner

The Caribbean Film Corner was born of a love of the Caribbean and of film, and a desire to give filmmakers from the region a global platform. It features films from across the Caribbean, created in Spanish, French, English and Dutch speaking countries that encompass the archipelago from the Bahamas to Trinidad. A rich vein of talent, artists from the area have created diverse films that span every genre and take many perspectives. Expect to see absorbing documentary, fiction and animation in short and feature length form. With ‘The Harder they come‘ an iconic film about the Jamaican Foundation Music will be screened on sunday. 13.7.2018 – Sweet Sensation Summerspecial

Once or twice a year the date of the Sweet Sensation changes for a bigger dancefloor and louder music. Instead of the last thursday of a month you will get your fix of the sweet sound of young Jamaica on a weekend. In July special guest The Conqueror will play his original treasures alongside his hosts Smart Soul and The Rhythm Ruler.

30.6.2018: Hotta Riddims powered by Graograman Hifi

We teamed up with Hotta Riddims a to present Lone Ranger a while ago. It’s great to see them collaborating with another beautiful Soundsystem from town for their next Rub-a-Dub dance. Although this is not an oldies event we highly recommend this party as the vibes are just great and the selectors Hotta Henne and Boogoo Yagga Dub Disco (who you might know from Sweet Sensation as an oldies selector) are known for playing quite some heavyweight vintage 80s tunes and riddims. George Palmer, Tonto Addi, Likkle Ferguson and Yugo will deliver lyrics in fine style. Check out the facebook-event for more information on the artists.

29.6.2018 – Hempolics live at YAAM

They are not a traditional Reggae or Rocksteady band, but The Hempolics take a lot of inspiration from the golden times of Jamaican Music. Their acoustic version of Desmond Dekkers ‘Fu Man Chu’ is brilliant and we are pretty sure the last show of their german tour at YAAM will be great. Win free tickets on the FB event page.
