This year, Freedom Fighter Soundsystem and Maratone Long Distance teamed up to present a Soundystem Yard inside the walls of the old castle that is the festival site. They will not only bring their massive speakers but also friends who help building the floor, running the bar and playing music influenced by jamaican soundsystem culture – from R&B, Calypso and Ska to Reggae, Dub and Steppas.

Maratone Rocksteady Club with Artical Ranx

picture by Paskal Rough & Tough

DJs:
Artical Ranx (London)
Panza (Midnight Drifters)
The Rhythm Ruler

It is the cold and dark season of the year where everybody tends to stay home in their warm and cozy nest. But the Maratone crew will bring their soundsystem to the lovely Privatclub once again to brighten up your souls that might suffer from winter blues. The noise that you might hear that night is not another fire camp, but the sound of original (sometimes a bit crackly) jamaican vinyl that stood the test of time and the heavyweight bass bins will make your trousers flutter. From the greatest hits of the 60s and early 70s to some more obscure collectors’ treasures, Panza and The Rhythm Ruler will play their favourite records.
For this edition they will also bring another special guest from the UK who goes by the name of Artical Ranx. He learned the art of selecting and deejyaing from people like Peter Negus a.k.a Fatman / Negus Nagast INRI Sound in the early 80s. Since then he has been collecting and playing jamaican oldies in revival dances and soundclashes all over the place and is a household name in the London Revival Scene.

24.11.2018 - Maratone Rocksteady Club

DJs:
Sir Luek (Hamburg)
Midnight Drifters
The Rhythm Ruler

As the summer seemed kinda endless this year, the promoters of the Rock Steady Club decided to take a longer break than usual. But now its time again to warm your feet during the cold season of the year by dancing to some hot scorchers. For the upcoming Rock Steady Club all 3 residents (The Rhythm Ruler, Alex & Panza a.k.a Midnight Drifters) will buss some sweat and lift the boxes of the Maratone Soundsystem once again to the beautiful Privatclub in Berlin Kreuzberg and of course they will also bring their heavyweight record selections.
As if this wasnt enough already, they decided to add some extra spice by inviting one of the most loyal supporters of their events during the last years. Easy to spot in the crowd with his impressive trademark mustache, Sir Luek will bring his favourite records to Berlin and will join the crew behind the wheels of steel.
He started collecting his favourite music when people still where thinking about going for a swim when they heard the word „eBay“. Sir Luek built his collection by going numerous times to the UK, checking handwritten lists of records for sale, and then waiting weeks for replies, by mail of course. Thats how it was more than 20 years ago. Get ready for a great selection that will please dancers and rarity spotters same way!

Maratone Rocksteady Club April 2018The last time we did string up the Maratone Soundsystem at Privatclub for Lone Ranger and Tonto Addi the vibe was more like a 70’s & 80’s Rub A Dub / Early Digital party. But as usual at the Rocksteady Club we go a bit further down memory lane, until the sweet 60’s. Once again it’s all about the finest Ska, Rock Steady and Early Reggae, played from precious original vinyl. This time finally Panza will be with us again as he his activities with Supersonic Sound didn’t allow him to join us for the last sessions. And once again we bring in an international guest:Vienna was called and Rayna from Treasure Isle Sound answered. He is one of the busiest DJs and Promoters when it comes to jamaican oldies events in Vienna. Rayna started collecting records since the age of 16 and did promote lots of events with great artists like Alton Ellis and Dennis Alcapone. Let’s hope he will also bring a few of the famous Treasure Isle dubplate specials with him beside his favourite tunes from his record collection. And now: „Wake the town and tell the people about this musical pleasure coming your way

Berlin Vintage Jamaican Music Soundclash - Artwork: Chema SkandalIf you think of a soundclash these days, dubplates and dancehall come to your mind. Heavy Hammer was just crowned as latest champion of ‘War Ina East‘ at YAAM and won with creative and exclusive specials. In England you can find a different soundclash culture, it is mostly popular in the revival scene and takes it’s inspiration from the 60s in Jamaica. No dubplates, but only original records from the 60s and 70s are presented by serious collectors and selectors to the audience. The ‘King of Kings Revival Clash’ in Hamburg in 2011 and 2012 proved that this concept is working very well in Germany as well. YAAM and Maratone Soundsystem teamed up for another oldies soundclash this year, the two Hamburg Kings Tiny T and Mr. Mass will compete with Thomas Eiene from the ‘Get Ready – 60s Reggae Club’ in Oslo for the title ‘Berlin Vintage Soundclash Winner 2018‘. It’s you, the audience, who will decide who of them plays the best Ska, Rocksteady and Early Reggae and wins the tune fe tune in the final. Make some noise!
